Founder
Emma Allen
Founder & Recruitment Consultant
Emma brings more than 15 years of recruitment experience across agency, in-house and specialist recruitment, with a strong focus on technology and digital appointments.
Her agency career began at Hays in Auckland and Wellington, followed by in-house recruitment roles at The University of Auckland, IAG New Zealand and Fletcher Building, and as Recruitment Manager at Autogrow. That mix gives her a clear view of recruitment from both sides of the table: what hiring managers need from an external partner, and how internal teams actually run their hiring.
Before recruitment, Emma worked in journalism, including at APN and interest.co.nz. It left her with a habit of asking good questions, listening carefully and writing clearly, which still shapes how she briefs a role and represents it to candidates.
Alongside Interface, Emma founded The Career Edit, a separate career development business. That work keeps her close to how experienced professionals think about their next move, and informs the care she takes with candidates.
Emma holds a BA (Hons) and a Graduate Diploma in Journalism, and is an Affiliate member of the Career Development Association of New Zealand (CDANZ).

Beyond the CV
How I assess people
Technical skills are only part of the picture. Every candidate I put forward is assessed by a person, across five areas alongside their technical depth. AI helps with research and administration, never with the judgement.
Leadership
How they set direction, build trust and develop a team.
Communication
How clearly they explain technical work to the business.
Judgement
The decisions they have made under pressure and uncertainty.
Adaptability
How they have handled change, ambiguity and transformation.
Cultural alignment
The environment in which they do their best work.
