Founder-led

You deal directly with me.

I'm Emma Allen. I have spent more than 15 years in recruitment, in agencies and inside organisations, and I set up Interface so clients could work with an experienced recruiter rather than a sales team.

Having hired from the inside, I understand the decisions behind a vacancy: the budget conversation, the team you are building, the risk of getting it wrong and the time it takes from everyone involved. That shapes how I brief a role, how I represent you to candidates and how I advise when the market doesn't match the plan.

I have worked in recruitment, in-house and agency-side, at organisations including Hays, The University of Auckland, IAG New Zealand, Fletcher Building and Autogrow.

The Interface approach

The judgement you're paying for

A good search is a series of decisions, not a sequence of tasks. Here is what I look for at each stage.

  1. Take the brief

What success looks like in twelve months, and which requirements are real and which are habit.

  2. Understand the organisation

Your team, culture, pace of change and how a candidate will see the opportunity.

  3. Map the talent

Who is out there, where they sit, what they earn and what would make them move.

  4. Assess beyond the CV

Leadership, communication, judgement and adaptability, alongside technical depth.

  5. Negotiate and close

Offers that work for both sides, managed through to the start date.

Beyond the CV

A considered shortlist, not a stack of CVs.

Algorithms are good at matching keywords. They are poor at judging how someone leads, explains, decides and adapts. Every Interface shortlist is assessed by a person, with AI used only for research and administration.

Leadership

How they set direction and build a team.

Communication

How they explain technical work to the business.

Judgement

The decisions they have made under uncertainty.

Adaptability

How they have handled change and transformation.

The right appointment can change the direction of a business.
